Sustainable Development Goals
Sedex has now released the Sustainable Development Goals report, which helps to digest the 17 goals into achievable actions at business level.
This report addresses and breaks down the Sustainable Development Goals, offering key actions, links through to the SMETA audit methodology, and multiple member case studies from around the world. These case studies showcase continuous improvement in action, helping to offer best practice guidance.
What are the SDGs?
The SDGs are a collection of 17 goals set by the United Nations in 2015. These goals followed on from the Millennium Development Goals, and whilst 17 goals to achieve sustainability is rather broad, they each contain a list of more detailed targets to achieve. The SDGs cover a range of issues and all interconnect to make sure changes are achieved together, without one issue being more important.
Sedex and the SDGs
Sedex are placing a great deal of focus on continuous improvement. Our Sedex Stakeholder Forum constantly looks to evolve products and services we offer to our members, and this group continuously makes us rev-evaluate what we can do and how we can make change better.
We believe that the SDGs represent everything about continuous improvement. Achieving the SDGs is not an official requirement, but everyone in our industry and beyond should be making positive changes that contribute towards a wider responsible sourcing journey. With this report, we are trying to break down the overwhelming complexity of the goals and simply lay out the challenges businesses face, examples of how to overcome this and best-practice examples of other organisations in the industry already implementing these actions.
