Sedex welcomes Simon McCalla as new Chief Executive Officer

Sedex, one of the world’s leading organisations for helping business drive ethical improvements in the global supply chain, is delighted to announce the appointment of Simon McCalla as their new CEO to start in 2019. Simon will lead Sedex’s strategic vision for the responsible sourcing industry, working with businesses to shape the future of ethical trade and make an increasingly positive impact worldwide.

 

London, UK – 13 December 2018.

The Sedex Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon McCalla as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Sedex’s responsible sourcing strategy from 2019, following a six-month recruitment process.

Simon joins Sedex at a pivotal stage of the company’s development and will be responsible for the ongoing growth and implementation of a new responsible sourcing strategy and vision for the company, as well as the development of products and services for its 50,000 global member organisations.

Simon, a business leader who has spent 25 years in retail, infrastructure and supply chain technology roles, joins Sedex from Nominet, the membership organisation responsible for the official registry of all .UK domain names and data services delivery, where he was Chief Information Technology Officer for six years.  He has worked internationally to build teams in the UK, USA, India and the Far East to build and deliver products and services to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the supply chain. He has a strong understanding of ethical supply chain challenges from his previous roles within brands and retail companies including Adams Childrenswear, Next, Volvo, Warner Bros and The White Company.

Simon’s background within both professional and voluntary roles has been to create an inspiring shared vision, to build strategies and then create tangible plans and teams that deliver clear objectives. Simon is a leader who will work with the Board, team and membership to create an exciting future for Sedex and motivate and inspire his team and the wider membership to make this a reality.

At Nominet Simon was responsible for the design and delivery of the company’s growth strategy through diversification of services and new data products.  He is an experienced executive and Board member, sitting on the Board of two membership organisations and a cancer charity.

Background in responsible sourcing and supply chain data  

Simon has 25 years of experience working in retail, infrastructure and supply-chain technology leadership roles. He has helped to build a not-for-profit, membership business trusted by the international community, policy makers and law enforcement. Simon’s strong belief for a greener, fairer economy and passion for businesses and organisations with a public-benefit and ethical heart has driven him in his professional and voluntary roles.

Working with a global, diverse membership organisation 

At Nominet, Simon ran the fifth largest global domain registry, exchanging data with 4000 members and 50 million+ customers daily. Understanding different international cultural and political landscapes has been vital to his success.  Simon has run international teams in the UK, USA, India and the Far East and most recently, led a team of 130 staff.  He has worked around the globe and chaired international committees and teams, working regularly at senior and ministerial level. Simon’s experience working for two membership organisations and strong international team-management skills positions him well as the CEO of Sedex.

As a business leader, Simon understands the importance of growing a business through smart commercial decisions and strong budget management.  Understanding the needs of the business, its customers and stakeholders is vital for building a strong and vibrant organisation. Simon’s background delivering technology and business solutions that meet market needs has led to strong commercial results and understanding of the challenges and opportunities Sedex faces.    He has delivered strong commercial growth against a changing competitive and stakeholder landscape, through the expansion of services and diversification of products in multiple roles.
