Sedex Supplier Workbook
As a supplier, you want to run a successful business, maintain good standards at your site and minimise its impact on the environment. You also want to meet your customers’ requirements and tackle any issues found at audit.
But understanding your customers’ expectations, and where and how to most effectively make improvements to your business, is not always straightforward.
The Sedex Supplier Workbook helps suppliers around the world understand what ‘good practice’ looks like when working towards Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) and other Code requirements. It also covers how to reach those requirements by offering practical guidance in short, easy-to-read sections. It is a free, publicly available document developed by Sedex in partnership with Verité.
What it offers
- Will help you systematically find and fix the gaps that can lead to social, environmental and governance non-compliances.
- Offers a practical way to manage risks and build controls into your existing business processes, for example, hiring and paying your employees. These controls will help you meet your customers’ and your own business, social and environmental responsibility objectives.
- Is not a standard for you to adhere to, or another management system. If you are operating a factory or a farm, you already have a management system, even if it is an informal one.
- Is available in both English and in Arabic
Each module features the following elements:
- Defining the issue – what does it mean? What are the ethical trade requirements as defined by the ILO and ETI Base Code?
- Business benefits – why do it?
- Non-compliances – what are the most common issues found at audit?
- Achieving and maintaining standards – giving step by step guidance to help meet the standards required
- Case study – managing the issue in practice
- Knowledge check – interactive quiz so participants can test what they have learned during the module. Results of the quiz suggest whether further actions are required and give links to additional information
