Understanding the Environmental Impacts of Palm Oil

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) launched the Sustainable Palm oil Platform (SPP) at the 10th Annual Roundtable Meeting on Sustainable Palm Oil (RT10).

Recognising that the issues surrounding palm oil are complex and difficult to navigate, the SPP provides a comprehensive library of tools and resources to facilitate communication between stakeholders and to increase the transparency of the supply chain in order to inform best practice and sustainability in the palm oil sector.

The online platform addresses sustainability concerns for each stage in the supply chain providing information for all stakeholders, including; growers and millers, transport and biofuels, NGOs and policy, investors and traders, refineries and manufacturers, and consumers and retailers.

The site is designed to be a participatory platform where stakeholders can contribute helpful and informative resources and discuss experiences and lessons learned via case studies. Sedex has contributed a case study to the website on ‘responsible sourcing in palm oil supply chains’.

Sedex members are encouraged to contact the ZSL Biodiversity and Palm Oil team at [email protected] or to use the ‘Contact Us’ form found on the website if they would like to contribute material or find out more.
